This phosphorescent effect is so pronounced that fish swimming about the lagoon seem moving stars. The continued downstream current of the river activates the microbes to move and emit neon-green color light not unlike light sticks. The luminous lagoon is the habitat of extremely rare dinoflagellate phosphorescent microbes that only survives where the warm fresh waters of the Martha Brae River meet the salty sea water.

However when you see the glow in the water when fish swam through I wasn't sure whether to believe it or not. Then you board a pontoon style boat similar to the African Queen. Dancers that were tireless and danced in a show for hours on end. I would def re visit when the weather improves. Just look on youtube.there are sooo many amazing videos showing the water glowing very bright. I think in all fairness it was wrong that our tour was not cancelled as they knew and admitted themselves that `this was not the best day to come` I do feel though that on a clear sunny day this attraction will be well worth a visit. due to the fact that it had been raining alot that day. The boat ride itself was fun and jumping into a pitch black Lagoon was an experience but.did i see any Glistening water? the answer is unfortunately NO. We were in a very small group so it felt a lot more personal. sharing their local knowledge of the area and on the Lagoon itself. On arrival we were offered a glass of rum punch and taken down the jetty towards the boat. this was really annoying as it wasnt cheap as we had to travel a long way! The staff and crew were lovely. we were advised by many locals after we returned from the trip that the water will only glow bright if there has been sunshine all day.
`NOTE TO ALL TRAVELERS.DO NOT VISIT IF ITS BEEN RAINING AS THE WATER DOSE NOT GLOW`. We saw this advertised many weeks before our trip and had to visit. I cant really give much on this as we saw little to nothing on our trip to Glistening Waters but I will still review as fairly as possible what I experienced.
